My experience with React Developer resumes

I spent 12 years recruiting, much of it at Google. Out of every tech specialty I screened, react is the one where the market has flipped the hardest. Five years ago it was the eldorado. A bootcamp grad with a decent React portfolio could pick from three offers before lunch, and senior engineers chose their employer based on the snacks. That market is gone.

We're in an employer-driven cycle now: senior react engineers with a decade of experience are sending two hundred applications to land one screen, and the same React Developer resume that worked in 2021 doesn't get past recruiters in 2026.

That's why I wrote this extensive guide that will help you bring your resume up to the new standards. I'll tell you how to fix the 5 most important sections of your React Developer resume so that you can land interviews, even in the current job market.

How I rewrite a React Developer resume

Through my resume writing service, a React CV crosses my desk almost every week. I tune every word on a client's resume so they get any advantage they can, but the payoff isn't even across sections. Going solo? Then put your energy into these 5 sections first. Everything else barely shifts your odds, so I won't make you sit through it, and I'll keep each explanation tight.

We'll walk through each section below one by one. Treat this guide as a checklist and you should come out the other side in far better shape. Here's the plan:

Step 1 · React Developer Resume Format

We'll begin with the easy win: choosing a resume format that clears ATS filtering.

Whatever the internet tells you, there's no need to overthink this. It's genuinely straightforward: your job is to make sure a text parser reads your content and structure the way you intended.

Sure, keywords drive the filtering and matching (more on that in Technical Skills, Step 5), but it's parsing failures that knock you out of 95% of applications.

Three simple rules take care of it:

Use a text editor (Word, Google Docs)

A parser can only read text that ships as text. Steer clear of tools like Canva or Adobe Illustrator that flatten your words into images. The ATS sees the image, never the words behind it. You may as well have submitted an empty page.

Single column, plain layout

Skip the columns, the sidebars, the tables, the images. Parsers still trip over all of them in 2026. It's the number-one thing I run into when I review resumes (roughly 30% of them). Strip them out and most of your trouble disappears.

Simple section titles

Profile Summary, Technical Skills, Work Experience, Education. Skip "My Journey" and "Stuff I've Built". Both the ATS and the recruiter are wired to spot standard section names, and cute ones confuse them. Drop the fuzzy headings as well: "Core Competencies" belongs under Profile Summary or Technical Skills, and "Career Highlights" belongs under Profile Summary or Work Experience.

Curious whether your current resume is ATS compliant? Run it through the ATS resume checker and look at what a real parser spits back. When the text and structure come out garbled, that's a layout problem rather than a content one, and honestly that covers most of how ATS systems really work.

Step 2 · React Developer Profile Summary

Whatever you've heard, a Profile Summary belongs on every resume, juniors very much included.

No Profile Summary on your resume right now, or one that falls flat? Fixing it is the single most impactful change you can make today.

I break this down in my piece on how recruiters screen resumes: screening usually runs in 2 steps, a first sweep that flags the relevant candidates, then a second one that builds the interview shortlist.

On that first sweep they're churning through dozens of CVs with barely any time per one (that's where the "10-second screen" myth comes from).

A Profile Summary is where you compress the key information a recruiter is looking for into a tight space, and that's what lifts your conversion.

Every bullet in the Profile Summary carries its own assignment. Here's the lineup I work from, what each bullet covers, and a real example for a React Developer resume.

Target job title, overall experience & scope

Bullet 1 exists to signal what role you are targeting, how senior you are, and the kind of product you build. Where it fits, layer in your sector or industry know-how, and drop the name of a recognizable company on your CV. It's the single most important line you write: it gets read first, and sometimes nothing after it gets read at all.

Domain expertise

Bullet 2 covers your domain expertise, basically every area of the role profile for the job you want (see Step 3, React Developer Work Experience). In our case that's React Development, so call out component design and modularity, state management, render performance, accessibility, and so on. Recruiters score resumes against a competency checklist, which is how a non-technical recruiter decides you fit. It can feel obvious, but picture it as a form you're filling out for them.

Your tech stack

Bullet 3 is a quick rundown of your main technical stack. True, every tool you own already lives in the "Technical Skills" section (see Step 5, React Developer Technical Skills), but here you're naming the ones you actually reach for. For a React dev that always comes down to the framework you live in and the ecosystem around it: SSR, testing, routing, and the rest.

Collaboration

Bullet 4 is about teamwork and cross-functional collaboration. This is the one that draws the most pushback, since technical candidates assume nobody cares. Look at it from the other side: a hiring manager needs the next hire to slot into a team and work with internal stakeholders. The technical skills they can teach; a collaborative attitude they can't. It sits near the top of their worries, so naming it tells them the team matters to you.

Leadership

Bullet 5 carries a little less weight, and it's the one bullet you're free to skip. Managers use it for hiring, running, and growing teams. ICs have a leadership angle here too: code reviews, sharing what you know, mentoring juniors, giving back to a shared design system.

Collaboration & Delivery Processes

You ship as a team, from code review to a safe rollout. Companies hand promotions to the people who make shipping calmer, not the ones who just close tickets, so hiring managers watch for it. Tell them how you contributed to the design system and shipped behind feature flags, using GitHub and Statsig, to keep your rollout success rate high.

Hitting every one of these makes your most recent job description run longer, sometimes 8-10 bullets. That's fine, whatever the blanket "resumes should be 1 page" rule on LinkedIn says. Recruiters don't care about length, and three pages that say something beat one page of filler any day. What they won't tolerate is "filler" that carries no information, and that's exactly what the next section is about.

Step 4 · React Developer Bullet Points

Bullet points eat up more of my time than anything else I do as a resume writer. That pushed me to build my own framework for them, the one I call the Level System.

We'll learn the basics by taking one bullet that's typical of a React dev resume and rebuilding it. The method is simple: 5 steps, and each one hands you a question to answer. Your answer is the detail you fold into the bullet.

Doing this nudges you toward deeper layers as you describe what you achieved. That depth is what hiring managers look for when they build the interview shortlist for React roles.

  2. Level 2, Add the techniques. Spell out the engineering practices behind the work: the kinds of tests, the rendering modes, the scaling tactics, the design patterns. This is the point where the bullet shows you grasp how it was built, not just that it went out the door.

  3. Level 3, Add the tools. Now name the actual products and versions in play: the framework, the database, the build tool. Recruiters run technology searches across resumes, so without a named stack your bullet never surfaces.

  4. Level 4, Add the method. Call out the methodology, framework, or design pattern that steered the work: TDD, DDD, BDD, GitOps, MVVM, CQRS, progressive enhancement, whatever applied. It's usually the hiring manager who enforces a methodology on the team, so naming yours signals you fit the way they already run things.

  5. Level 5, Add the metric. A number is what sets the top 1% of bullets apart from everything else. It pulls double duty: it proves the impact was real, and it proves you cared enough to measure it. Leave it off and you read like every other candidate.

Step 5 · React Developer Technical Skills

The Technical Skills section gets parsed by ATS and is sometimes used for keyword filtering. So you do want it to match the language on the job description.

But we're already onto the final touches at this point. Getting this section right will give you a small push during filtering and screening, but the heavy lifting is done by the Profile Summary, Work Experience, and Bullet Points sections.

That said, skills and keywords compound across your entire resume, so it's good practice to learn what ATS and recruiters want to read about. It comes down to your experience. Under 8 years, a single page usually does the job. Once you are senior or staff with a real component-architecture or design-system story to tell, two or even three pages is fine, and recruiters will keep reading past page one when there is genuine substance there. The mandatory-one-page rule everyone repeats is wrong: padding works against you, but so does squeezing a senior career onto one sheet. The tech resume length rules I use map to seniority, not to page count.

Not automatically. What settles it is how dense your content is, not a page target. Early in your career one page is the natural fit because you simply do not have enough to fill more. If you are senior with several component-architecture or design-system milestones that deserve room, jamming it onto one page just cuts the very lines that win the interview.

Your latest role. Close to 95% of the screen rides on that one position, because recruiters open it first to check whether your daily work lines up with the job description. The profile summary comes a close second, since it is the thing they read on the way there.

Stick to a single column with no header icons, no sidebars, no images, plain section names (Profile Summary, Technical Skills, Work Experience, Education), and export to PDF, not DOCX. Run it through my free ATS parser tool and check the parser is lifting the right skills. If half your stack drops out of the output, the layout is what is failing you, not the content.

In 2026 the must-haves are JavaScript, TypeScript, React, HTML, CSS, and Accessibility. Strong supporting keywords are Next.js, Tailwind CSS, Redux Toolkit, React Query, Vitest or Jest, Playwright or Cypress, Storybook, and Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS). If you are junior or mid, yes. A live site showing three or four real builds beats any amount of self-description. At senior and staff level, GitHub and LinkedIn usually cover it because your track record does the convincing. A portfolio left untouched for two years does more damage than having none at all.

Lead with the one you ship in daily. Recruiters check the framework on the job description before anything else, and your resume needs to echo that framework in the summary, the skills row, and the top bullets. List the other two only if you have a real bullet behind each. Three frameworks with no proof reads as a survey, not a stack.

Four or five bullets, six at the outside. A paragraph-form summary makes the recruiter read rather than scan, and they will not read in the opening few seconds. Bullets let them match you against the job description quickly and decide whether to keep going.
