Work Experience

Palantir Technologies Senior Forward-Deployed Engineer
Washington, DC Aug 2021 - Present
  • Embed on-site with customer teams at DoD combatant command and intel agency sites across defense and national security, rotating through 4 customer programs in 6-week on-site stints, sitting in the SCIF with operators and mission leads to scope real problems against current workflows.
  • Build bespoke customer applications on top of Foundry as React and Workshop apps, wiring ontology objects, Slate dashboards, and Code Workbook notebooks into the daily flow of analysts, mission planners, and ops officers, shipping 11 production apps reaching 1,400 daily users across the customer's analyst and ops staff.
  • Wire heterogeneous customer data into the platform via PySpark on Foundry pipelines, integrating 17 source systems (legacy mission databases, sensor feeds, file drops, classified APIs) and landing 2.3 TB a day into a cleaned ontology that analysts can actually query, with end-to-end freshness held under 4 minutes.
  • Deploy and harden the stack inside air-gapped IL5 enclaves, working under IL5 and ITAR controls against a NIST 800-53 security baseline with the customer's ISSOs, and landing the platform across a cross-domain and edge nodes topology where standard SaaS assumptions break and every artifact ships on physical media.
  • Run rapid in-field prototyping on a weekly working builds cadence with operators in the loop, hitting a first working prototype in 10 days from kickoff and absorbing 14 in-field iterations per deployment as the customer's real workflow surfaces under live pressure.
  • Become a temporary domain expert in targeting and ISR fusion to scope work against real mission needs, mapping 9 operator workflows end-to-end (terminology, KPIs, decision moments, escalation paths) and lifting cycle-time KPIs on those workflows by 38% against pre-deploy baselines.
  • Partner with account managers and customer leadership on renewals and expansion, with customer-visible mission outcomes as the renewal story, supporting $22M of account ARR across the embed portfolio and closing the year at 142% net renewal and expansion.
Booz Allen Hamilton Software Engineer (Mission Systems)
McLean, VA Jul 2017 - Jul 2021
  • Trained customer operators and analysts on the tools we shipped through on-site bootcamps and runbooks, pairing with internal champions on the customer side, taking 240 operators through hands-on enablement and holding 84% 90-day active-use past the initial deployment.
  • Closed the field-to-product feedback loop through biweekly field-to-product syncs with Product and Engineering leadership, surfacing platform gaps, workflow friction, and missing-capability asks from active customer deployments, and shaping 12 reusable gap patterns that promoted 6 bespoke FDE builds into core platform features within the year.
  • Carried the security and operational discipline on every deploy through ATO packages and STIG hardening, handling classified data under IL4, IL5, FedRAMP High, and supporting 5 ATO audits across customer programs with zero finding-driven re-work.
  • Worked closely with program managers, ISSOs, customer engineers, and core platform teams to coordinate cross-program tooling reuse and deployment standardization, classified-data escalations, and customer steering reviews, authoring 7 FDE playbooks that shaped the team's deployment standard and mentoring 3 incoming Forward-Deployed Engineers through their first on-site rotations.

About this template

A Forward-Deployed Engineer
Resume Template, by an Engineering CV Consultant.

Quick intro: 12 years of recruiting experience, including many years at Google. I run an engineering CV consultant practice for IT and engineering candidates, and FDE rewrites land in my queue from embedded-engineering rewrites. The Forward-Deployed Engineer role is the Palantir-style seat where engineers embed with customer teams to build bespoke solutions on top of a core platform. Common at Palantir, Anduril, and Scale AI; increasingly at AI labs like OpenAI and Anthropic, and at any startup shipping a platform that needs real customers using it tomorrow. Recruiters read these resumes looking for the customers you sat with, the apps and pipelines you shipped on-site, and the workflows that actually changed.

Most folks who land here go on to book the custom rewrite. We pull the curtain back on the customer programs you embedded with, the bespoke apps you shipped, the messy data sources you wired up, the constrained environments you deployed into, and the field feedback that promoted bespoke work into core product. "Deployment Strategist" or "Embedded Engineer" on the JD? Same template, swap the title in the side panel. If a tight, FDE-shaped skeleton is enough, this is exactly that. Free, no signup, ATS-clean. Give it a go.

How it works

How to use this template
to write a Forward-Deployed Engineer resume

The structure here was written by a former Google recruiter. The placeholders push you to be specific exactly where it matters: customer embed, bespoke applications, data integrations, constrained environments, and the operator KPIs that actually moved.

Strong Forward-Deployed Engineer bullets don't write themselves on the first pass. They build through five stages. Stage one names the work you owned. Stages two and three add the tools (core platform, language, pipeline framework) and the deployment context (customer industry, on-site rotation, compliance regime). Stage four shows the FDE practice (rapid prototyping, user-in-the-loop iteration, workflow immersion). Stage five is the operator metric: cycle-time lift, daily active users, renewal rate. Bullets that land at stage five are the ones a hiring manager flags for the phone screen. The full breakdown lives in How to Write Bullet Points for Tech Resumes.

  1. 01 Task What you owned
  2. 02 Tools Foundry, Python, PySpark, React
  3. 03 Customer Context Industry, rotation, compliance
  4. 04 Practice In-field prototyping, workflow immersion
  5. 05 Metric Operator KPI lift, DAUs, renewal

This template hard-wires the five stages into the bullets so the framework runs in the background. The side panel maps clean: tool picks fill stage 2, customer-industry and compliance fields fill stage 3, practice-pattern fields fill stage 4, the metric fields land at stage 5. The sentence skeletons cover stage 1. Why this matters: you only have to drop in real customers and real numbers. The structure handles the rest, and the resume reads at stage 5.

  1. Pick your stack

Tap a chip to swap Foundry for Gotham, Lattice, or Donovan, AWS GovCloud for Azure Government or air-gapped, Python for TypeScript or Java, PySpark for Airflow or dbt, IL5 for FedRAMP High or HIPAA. Every mention updates at once.

  2. Drop in your numbers

Customer programs embedded with, on-site rotation length, apps shipped, daily active users, source systems wired, daily ingest volume, time to first working prototype, in-field iterations, workflows mapped, operator KPI lift, account ARR, renewal rate. Don't have yours yet? The defaults pass for a senior FDE resume.

  3. Save as PDF

Yes, totally free. No signup, no email gate, no premium tier waiting in the wings. Open the template, fill in your details, save the PDF, you're done.

Yes. The exported PDF is single-column with the section headers ATS systems read by default (Profile Summary, Technical Skills, Education, Work Experience), no tables, no images, no multi-column layouts. Workday, Greenhouse, and iCIMS parse it cleanly. Run the export through our ATS Checker after if you want a second look.

You can. Toggle Edit at the top of the resume preview, then click into any sentence and rewrite it directly. The side-panel placeholders keep updating; the rest of the text is plain editable copy.

Click Download. Your browser builds the PDF on the spot, no print dialog, no signup, no server in the loop. The output is real vector text on US Letter, parsed by ATS systems the same way they parse any clean resume export.

Match the title on the JD you are targeting. Forward-Deployed Engineer (FDE) is the Palantir-popularized title, also used at Anduril, Scale AI, and a growing number of AI labs (OpenAI, Anthropic). Deployment Strategist is Palantir's adjacent commercial title, lighter on the engineering. Solutions Engineer at AI startups is often FDE work in disguise. Embedded Engineer, Customer Engineer, and Field Engineer turn up at infra and dev-tools vendors. The work is the same: sit with the customer, build bespoke software on top of the company platform, deliver real outcomes. Swap the title in the side panel and the rest of the resume holds.

FDE is post-sale and deeply hands-on. You sit at the customer site, write real code, build real pipelines, and ship a working solution on top of the company's platform. Sales Engineer is pre-sale: demos, POCs, deal strategy. Solutions Architect is also pre-sale, one level up: reference architectures, multi-workload POCs, RFPs. If your day is sitting on a customer floor (military base, hospital system, factory, trading floor), writing custom apps, wiring up messy data sources, and training operators on what you built, this is the template. If your day is demos with AEs and shaping the contract, use Sales Engineer or Solutions Architect.

No. Hiring managers screen Forward-Deployed Engineers on the customer outcomes you delivered, the bespoke applications you shipped on-site, the data integrations you wired up in constrained environments, the workflows you learned cold, and the adoption you drove past initial deployment. Layout origin is not on the rubric. What does cost interviews is a resume padded with vague platform buzzwords, which this one is built to prevent. The skeleton came from a former Google recruiter; the substance is yours.

Why trust this template

I built this Forward-Deployed Engineer template from the patterns I saw work, not from generic advice. Below is the data behind every bullet, skills line, and metric placeholder.

  • Experience 300+ Forward-Deployed Engineer and embedded-engineer resumes screened across defense and intel (Palantir, Anduril), AI labs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Scale AI), industrial and manufacturing programs, and healthcare and finance deployments during my Google recruiter years and at TechieCV. The Profile Summary and Tools sections mirror what survived the 6-second screen for FDEs targeting Senior and Staff offers.
  • Expertise Bullets modeled on senior offers. The Palantir section is structured the way Senior and Staff Forward-Deployed Engineers write their experience when they land tier-one defense and AI-lab interviews: named on-site customer rotations, bespoke apps shipped with real user counts, heterogeneous data integration with source-system counts, deployment under named compliance regimes, in-field prototype cadence, operator-KPI lift on workflows you mapped cold, and the account ARR your embed actually defended.
  • Trust Stack reflects the 2026 hiring bar. Palantir Foundry as the core platform, AWS GovCloud as the deployment target, Python plus PySpark for data work, React (or Workshop) for the operator-facing app, IL5 as the default compliance regime, plus a TS/SCI clearance is what hiring managers expect today; suggestion chips cover realistic alternatives (Gotham, Lattice, Donovan, Azure Government, air-gapped, edge, TypeScript, Java, Go, Airflow, dbt, FedRAMP High, HIPAA, ITAR, Secret clearance, Foundry Practitioner cert) so you can match your real toolchain without losing keyword fit.
