Dear Coinbase Talent Acquisition team,
I would like to apply for the Director of Engineering role you have posted on your careers page. My focus these past few years has been engineering leadership, and I would be glad to bring that to your team.
Ahead of writing I read about Coinbase, and what stood out was your work scaling the trading platform and the engineering posts on how your directors keep large orgs shipping. This looks like a strong time to join, and I would gladly put my engineering leadership experience to work there.
Reading the posting, the three needs that stand out most are leading multiple teams and their managers, setting engineering strategy and org direction and delivering across the org and managing stakeholders. Those decide whether a director of engineering works out, and I have real results behind each.
On leading multiple teams and their managers, my daily tools are managing managers, org design and headcount planning. As a Director of Engineering at Twitch, I handled leading three teams and their managers through a reorg without losing a beat. Beyond that, I built the management operating rhythm the whole group now works to.
For setting engineering strategy and org direction, I rely on engineering strategy, roadmaps and OKRs. In my time as a Director of Engineering at Twitch, I took on setting a two-year engineering strategy that the executive team signed off on.
On delivering across the org and managing stakeholders, I bring cross-org delivery, budgets and executive reporting. Working as a Director of Engineering at Twitch, I owned landing a company-wide platform migration on budget and on time. On top of that, I grew the org from 15 to 40 engineers while holding attrition below 8 percent.
I would be glad to walk through this in an interview and show why I fit. I am ready to lead your engineering org, set its direction and grow the managers and teams within it, and to grow alongside the company.
I would be glad to find a time to talk.
Yours sincerely,
