A recruiter's opinion on solutions architect resume metrics

Every guide hits the same beat: quantify the work. A solutions architect has plenty to quantify, since designs either land deals or they do not, but most SA resumes just list clouds and certs and stop at that.

So which of these are worth listing on a solutions-architect resume? Where is each tracked? And might one number actually tip a hiring decision?

Recruiting for years, a solid slice at Google, the solutions architects who landed offers made their designs' payoff clear: not “designed cloud solutions” but “architected the migration that cut the customer's bill 35%.” A line like that clears the first screen, because listing services is easy, showing your design paid off is the hard part.

Sifting the figures that matter from the ones that pad, then teeing each up so a recruiter clocks it, eats up a good deal of my resume writing service. Here is every number that deserves space on a solutions-architect resume, plus when to use it, where it is logged, and a way to land it in one line.

Why metrics matter on a Solutions Architect resume

The whole hiring path is laid out in how recruiters screen resumes; briefly, it happens over a few rounds. The recruiter takes the first, a rapid read of your profile summary and the roles listed beneath. After that an architecture lead or the hiring manager digs into the detail, judging whether real solutions ship when the design is yours.

So two judges size up your figures: the recruiter to start, then an architecture lead who sees straight off what an eight-figure migration or a 35% TCO cut really took.

To the recruiter a figure hardly registers; keywords are the currency. The architecture lead you'd report to reads “cut the cloud bill 35% with a re-architecture” and grasps exactly what that took. A real number's whole job: it shows your designs pay off, not that you draw tidy diagrams.

And the weights are not equal, either. If your numbers seem thin, no reason to fret: for a solutions architect, a single solid migration or consumption figure already beats a page of certifications.

Solutions Architect resume metrics FAQ

Tell the story instead. A figure would help, sure, but the designs you shipped and where they ended up still carry weight. Point to a migration you led, an architecture a customer put into production, or the reference design your field keeps reusing. Recruiters treat those as real architecture work, every piece checkable. Each card above closes with a ready example.

That works, provided the number is reasonable and stands up to a follow-up. You dropped a customer's cloud bill but the starting figure was never captured? "Down by about a third" works. Lean on ranged numbers any time the raw account spend is confidential. One check: it survives you saying the logic aloud.

Don't. A solutions-architect panel digs into the design fast, and a fabricated figure crumbles as soon as they probe how you reached that saving or what the baseline even was. One bogus number can sink the interview outright. A straight account of the work holds up and lands with the same force.

No, just the standouts. Put numbers on your few strongest bullets, the ones that get read first. Number the lot and the good ones vanish in the padding. A tight, provable few outdo a wall of figures.

Go with whatever lands harder. A raw count carries itself ("200 workloads migrated"); a gain reads better as a percentage ("cloud spend down 35%"). An unanchored percentage gets struck. Show both where it earns it: "TCO down 40% over a two-year migration."

They do, and juniors have more to point at than they think. A design you shipped, a migration you pitched in on, a POC you built, a cert you passed: a single job or an internship gives you plenty. The big-name client hardly matters, only evidence your design held up.

Usually closer than you'd think. Your design docs and diagrams hold the architectures; the cloud console has consumption and cost; the CRM links designs to the deals they moved; version control keeps your reusable assets. For work from years ago, give a reasonable estimate and flag it as a guess.

Only one, placed up top. Your strongest figure, the ARR you unlocked or your largest migration, wins the recruiter's attention for a second longer. Everything else goes to the work-experience bullets. The Solutions Architect resume guide covers writing that summary.
