A software engineer resume writing service run by a recruiter

Emmanuel Gendre, software engineer resume writer and ex-Google recruiter

Emmanuel Gendre Ex-Google recruiter, tech resume writer

Hi there, I’m Emmanuel!

I’m a former Google recruiter who left the corporate world to write resumes for software engineers. I’ve turned everything I know about hiring top engineering talent into a writing methodology designed to pass phone screens.

A lot of what you read online about resumes is generic and uninformed, which is what gets most devs rejected at screening. I’m not here to sell you a beautiful template or better action verbs. I focus on the only thing recruiters care about: technical content.

I’ve helped hundreds of software engineers land top-paying roles, from new grads to staff-level positions:

  • Front-end developers
  • Back-end developers
  • Full-stack developers
  • Mobile developers
  • Embedded developers
  • Game developers
  • Blockchain developers
  • Software architects

Free resume review

A recruiter screen, but with feedback

You’ve applied to dozens of software engineering roles: no result. Companies won’t tell you why, so the same resume keeps going out and the same silence keeps coming back.

Let’s break that loop today!

I’ll screen your resume the same way I did at Google.

You’ll get:

  • Your resume sections and content scored.
  • A clear list of what to improve, why, and how.
  • Behind the scenes secrets on the screening process.

Why your software engineer resume gets rejected

SDE resumes get rejected more than ever

You sent 100, maybe 200 applications. A few replies, then silence. Companies don’t tell you why you got rejected, so you’re left guessing while the weeks go by. And if this is your first job search in years, you’ve probably noticed your old resume doesn’t work like it used to.

The 2026 software hiring market is tough

The market for software engineers is employer-driven: more applicants than open roles, for the first time in a long time.

A few years ago, recruiters messaged you every week and you barely needed a resume. Today you have to compete hard for the job you want. If your resume can’t get through the first screen, you never get to show what you can do in the interviews.

Besides losing potential income, this means that your career stalls due to lack of access and opportunities.

In an employer-driven job market, it falls back on you to get “unstuck”. You’ve tried to figure it out on your own, but if you’re like most software engineers, 4 things are holding you back:

01

Software Engineering roles are more competitive

According to Ashby’s 2026 hiring data, applications per hire have tripled since 2021, and the average open role now gets more than 300 applications. You’re competing with 3x more people every time you apply.

It’s not just quantity, it’s also quality: since 2022, tech companies have laid off more than 800,000 employees, which means many of the additional applicants are top talent with big names on their resumes. Ranking in the top 5 for competitive roles is impossible for most.

?Screening
02

The screening process is opaque

Rejections come back as automated emails (if they come at all). It’s hard to be objective with your own resume, especially when you don’t know how recruiter screens work. As I always say: resume writing is advertising. You need to know what recruiters want so you can write about it. You can’t improve your resume without a recruiter’s feedback.

Top 5-10
03

The bar is also higher than you think

You might be tempted to follow your friends’ advice to get a resume similar to theirs. This is what everyone does, and they end up with an average resume.

But in a screening process, 100% of average resumes are rejected. Only the top 5-10 resumes get a callback: that’s your actual goal.

04

Online advice is messy and contradictory

One post says one page, the next says two. Keep a summary, drop the summary. Put your GitHub at the top, or leave it off. ChatGPT and Claude repeat the same generic advice, and a new AI resume tool shows up every week. None of it fixes the real problem: technical depth. Resume help should come from those who know recruiting and software.

Hiring a software engineer resume writer vs. doing it alone

AI only helps with syntax

Resume apps and chatbots do make your writing smoother, yes. But if you read it again, carefully, it’s mostly fluff. Nice sentences without substance or intent. Recruiters complain about AI resume slop more than ever.

A software engineer CV has to be deliberate about your stack, your architecture decisions and the numbers that prove they worked. It’s the same as for coding: it’s OK to use AI to execute, but the editorial work and the positioning still require a human.

Fancy templates work against you

Template sites sell you a pretty design. Recruiters don’t care about pretty. They spend 6 to 10 seconds on the first screen (here’s how recruiters screen your resume), and they need a plain, predictable layout to find what they’re looking for fast.

Two columns, icons and skill bars make both the ATS and the recruiter’s job harder, so you get fewer callbacks, not more.

Better content wins, not better design.

A resume service designed by a recruiter, for software engineers

Emmanuel, software engineer resume writer and former Google recruiter, with the TechieCV, Google, Groupon and Persol logos and years
01

A resume written by a recruiter, for recruiters

Your resume is a sales document with a very specific audience: tech recruiters. The software engineer resumes that perform best are written by someone who knows exactly how those recruiters work. So who better to write yours than a recruiter? I spent 13 years recruiting, many of them at Google, deciding every day who got an interview. Every writing decision I make comes from that experience.

02

A software engineer resume writer who reads code

Recruiters aren’t the only ones deciding. Engineering managers make the final call, and I worked with hundreds of them at Google. They look for technical depth and proof of impact, so your writer has to be technical enough to write both. I bring 13 years of recruiting, 6 years of self-taught software development (pre-AI), and 6 years of writing resumes for engineers. When you write about a cache layer or a Kafka migration, I know what I’m reading.

Google Doc comment thread between the resume writer and a client, clarifying the technical details of their work
03

A technical conversation about your code

Most resume services are generic. They start with a form or a quick meeting, rewrite the wording, and they’re done. This one works differently: it’s a technical conversation.

The whole rewrite happens in a shared Google Doc. I comment on every decision, and you push back, add context or answer my questions. No video calls, no scheduling. You check every claim, so the final resume is 100% accurate, and the full version history stays in the doc. Your voice stays in the resume, and my questions help you remember work you’d forgotten about.

Why use a resume writing service for software engineers

I think there are only 2 real options: learn to write it yourself, or hire a resume writer who specializes in software engineering. Everything in between (generic services, AI tools, resume apps) feels like progress and doesn’t get you more callbacks.

How I rewrite software engineer resumes

My tried and tested process to rewrite software engineering CVs.

Step 1 of 3

You send your resume and target role

Upload your resume and tell me the roles you're going after. I send back a short requirements form: target companies, seniority, and anything the resume doesn't already say about what you built. That’s the whole intake.

Takes 5 minutes

The requirements form an engineer fills in before the rewrite starts

A resume writing service for every kind of software engineer

Front-end or embedded, new grad or staff: find your specialty below.

Click any role to see a full resume example.

Front-End & Web

For front-end devs, I write about component architecture, state management, API integration, performance, accessibility and testing. We need to show how you build UIs that hold up at scale. Then we demonstrate your impact with numbers: Core Web Vitals, bundle size, test coverage, conversion rate.

Back-End & APIs

For back-end engineers, I cover API design, data modeling, system architecture, messaging, caching and observability. We need to show the scale your services run at. Then we demonstrate your impact with requests per second, p99 latency, uptime and the outages you prevented.

Full-Stack & Mobile

Full-stack devs own features end to end, so I write about the UI, the API, the database and the deployment. For mobile devs, it’s the UI, offline storage, performance and app store releases. Either way, we need to show your range, and prove it with users, crash-free rates, store ratings and release cadence.

Embedded & Systems

With embedded engineers, I write about firmware, drivers, RTOS, communication protocols and hardware integration. We need to show the constraints you worked under: memory, timing, power. Then we prove your results with boot time, power draw, defect rates and the test rigs you built.

Game Development

When I write for game devs, I cover gameplay systems, engine work, rendering, physics, networking and tools. We need to show the titles you shipped and the systems you owned. Then we prove it with frame time, memory budgets, load times and player numbers.

Senior, Staff & Tech Lead

At senior and staff level, I write about technical direction, architecture, cross-team decisions and mentoring. We need to show your scope: the systems you designed and the teams that built on them. Then we back it up with impact on reliability, delivery speed, cost and the engineers you grew.

Blockchain & Web3

For Web3 devs, I write about smart contracts, security, gas optimization, protocol integrations and testing. We need to show you ship safe code, and demonstrate it with audits, value secured, gas saved and transaction volume. No hype words: recruiters skip those.

Free resume review

Need a quick resume review first?

Don’t see your exact stack above? I keep an internal Role Profile for almost every software engineering job, and the roles listed above are only the ones with a public guide.

Whatever your title, the screen works the same way. Upload your resume and I’ll tell you what a recruiter sees in the first 10 seconds.

For your role, I’ll tell you:

  • Whether your target role reads clearly off the top of page one.
  • Which bullets an engineering manager would stop on.
  • The technical detail you left out that should be in there.

I'm Emmanuel. I started recruiting in Tokyo as a rookie headhunter in 2013, and spent four years on agency-side work before moving in-house with Groupon. I then joined Google in the UK, hiring for both engineering and commercial functions. My total time in recruiting is 13 years.

Around the same time, I taught myself to code. I've been developing web apps for over 6 years and I still ship features every week. I wouldn't dare compare myself to a classically trained engineer, but I'm good enough to understand what you do and write thoughtfully about the technical parts.

Since starting TechieCV, I've rewritten 1,500+ resumes and got clients hired at Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, and many smaller scale-ups.

Frequently Asked Questions

A software engineer resume writer reads your stack like an engineer and writes your bullets like a recruiter. A generic writer fixes your grammar and swaps weak verbs for stronger ones, but leaves the technical depth alone because they can’t read it: the architecture decisions, the scale, the numbers that show your level. I can. Six years of self-taught coding plus 13 years of recruiting means a bullet about a Redis cache, a GraphQL migration or a flaky test suite gets written the way an engineering manager wants to read it.

Most likely, yes. I write for front-end, back-end, full-stack, mobile, embedded, game and Web3 developers, in any language: JavaScript and TypeScript, Java, Python, Go, Rust, C#, C++, Swift or Kotlin. If your title isn’t in the list above, send me your resume anyway: I keep an internal Role Profile for almost every software engineering job in tech.

Often, yes. You’re up against candidates with longer track records, so your projects have to do the work that job experience normally does. I write your personal, school and open-source projects to the same depth as work bullets: the stack, the decisions you made, the result. If your budget is tight, Break Into Tech is the package made for that.

Yes. Big tech resumes lean on scale: traffic, number of services, latency budgets, on-call. Scale-up resumes lean on ownership and judgment when the plan isn’t clear. Startup resumes lean on range: you built the API, the front end and the CI pipeline, and the bullets need to show that without looking scattered. I pick the angle based on where you’re applying.

It can reword it. It can’t decide what you should lead with. ChatGPT doesn’t know whether your Kafka work or your React performance work matters more for the role you want, or whether your summary loses the recruiter in the first 6 seconds. Most engineers who hire me have already tried AI. The resume looked polished, and the callbacks still didn’t come. Well written and well positioned aren’t the same thing.

No. The one-page rule is a myth. Recruiters care about how much useful information they find, not the page count. With 8 years of relevant work, 2 pages is fine. With 1 strong role, 1 page is fine. What matters is that every line is worth reading. More on how long a resume should be.

Mine are $195, $295 and $495. Break Into Tech is a full rewrite with 1 round of revisions. Climb the Ladder adds your LinkedIn profile, a cover letter and 30 days of unlimited revisions. Power Move gets you a first draft in 1 business day, plus a master resume with up to 3 targeted versions and a one-page version for networking and referrals. Every package comes with a 100% refund if you ask within 14 days of draft delivery.

Your first draft comes back in 4 business days, or 1 business day on Power Move. Each round of revisions usually takes 1 business day. Most clients sign off on the final version within 5 to 10 business days, depending on how fast they answer my comments in the doc.

Yes, if they’re relevant to the role you want and the code is clean. Two projects written properly beat six listed by name: the stack, what you built, and what it does. Link the repo, because a hiring manager who opens it is already halfway to inviting you to interview.

Ask 3 questions. Can they read your stack, or will you spend the whole time explaining what Kubernetes does? Have they screened resumes at volume, or only written them? And will you see the reasoning behind each change, or just get a finished file? I go through the rest in my guide on how to choose a resume writer.
